Gin Tasting Masterclass

What better way to kick off the Christmas festivities this year than with a gin tasting masterclass from Burleigh’s Gin?

Henry Yates from Burleigh’s Gin in Loughborough will be joining us for the evening of December 21st to lead a very special tasting of gin, gin and tonics and cocktails. He’ll talk about the process of making gin, selecting and balancing the flavours and about mixing cocktails and drinks to enjoy over the Christmas holidays.

Burleigh’s is one of our very special locally sourced products. Tickets for this exclusive event will be strictly limited, and cost just £15. This includes the talk plus two free Burleigh’s gin and tonics – one on arrival and one during Henry’s talk. There’ll be tastings and some snacks to accompany the drinks, and a special price on all gins all night for those attending the gin tasting.

Sing Christmas!

Once again we are taking part in BBC Radio Leicester’s Sing Christmas event.

On Monday, December 19th, we’ll be joining in with a county-wide carol concert, with community groups, pubs, clubs and churches all over Leicestershire, singing family favourite carols for an hour accompanied by BBC Radio Leicester’s broadcast.

We’ll have mulled wine and mince pies from 6pm, with the music starting at 7pm sharp!

Songsheets will be provided, and thanks to our upgraded music system, we should all be able to hear the carol concert this year!

Exciting new arrival – traditional Spanish cider

riestra_sidra_natural_cider_largeWe’ve got a lovely new arrival in the cellar – traditional Spanish cider (or “Sidra natural”) from Riestra, a ciderhouse in Sariego, Asturias on the northern coast of Spain.

The cider comes in large 700ml bottles, great for sharing or to accompany a meal. It’s 6.5% abv, dry and refreshing, and produced from cider apple varieties native to northern Spain. A perfect match for pork or fish dishes on our menu, or our sherry and honey roasted baby chorizo.

New Year’s Eve – now booking for dinner, bed and breakfast

We’d love to invite you to celebrate the New Year with us at the Geese and Fountain. We have a delicious menu of locally-sourced seasonal delights, and fabulous entertainment in the shape of Groove Merchants – who are bringing some very special guests, guaranteed to keep the place bouncing until 2017 is well and truly in.

You’re welcome to join us for drinks, and the music, with no cover charge or ticket price. We’ll be open all day on New Year’s Eve as normal, with Groove Merchants due to start around 9pm. Music, dancing and general merriment will continue until the last of us stagger home.

We are also offering a ‘beer matching’ and ‘wine matching’ New Year’s Eve dinner, where each course from the canapes to the coffee will be accompanied by a glass of a specially selected wine or beer from our extensive range, tailored to bring out the best in both the drinks and the flavours of the food. The matching menus are available for £70 per person. Please advise us at the time of booking your table if you’d like either of the matching menu options.

We have a limited number of B&B rooms still available for New Year’s Eve. Our single room, Archibald is available for £60, and one twin or double room, for £80. Please contact us urgently if you’d like to book one of these rooms, subject to availability.

 

Hoppy Christmas – a beery advent calendar

This Christmas we’re offering you the chance to get your hands on twenty four of our current favourites, complete with tasting notes compiled by Nick, to give you the advent calendar you’ve always wanted.

Whether for yourself or the beer lover in your life, it’s the ideal early Christmas present. 24 beers, with a combined normal retail value of well over £100, will be yours for just £70.

Order your advent calendar by November 25th, with a £20 deposit. The selection of beers, and the full tasting notes, will be available for collection from Monday November 28th – ready for you to enjoy every day from December 1st to Christmas Eve. Hoppy pale ales, dark and succulent milds and porters, best bitters and refreshing lagers, many different styles and breweries will be included in your selection.

You’ll love our yuletide menu for 2016

During December 2016 we’ll be offering a special Yuletide menu from Thursday 1st December until Friday 30th December (except Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and Tuesday 27th), for small or large groups, at both lunch time and for dinner, six days a week, Monday to Saturday. Alongside the Yuletide Menu, a selection from our pub classics menu will also be offered for those not wishing to indulge in seasonal fayre.

With December on the horizon, we’re looking for a couple of additional part-time members of staff, one in the kitchen and one behind the bar. Experience preferred but not as essential as having the right approach to hard work and quality. We’re a Living Wage employer, which means you’ll get a minimum of £8.20 per hour.
