This Sunday, September 13th, sees The Geese and Fountain hosting our first cycling event – and it’s a real cracker.
Helen Russell was one of a dozen riders, led by ex-footballer Geoff Thomas, to ride the entire route of the Tour de France this summer as part of the ‘One Day Ahead’ team. And this Sunday she’s coming over to the Geese and Fountain to lead a fun group ride and talk about her experiences climbing Mont Ventoux and all the rest.
We’re meeting up at 11am to have bacon and egg cobs, then riding to the new Cafe Ventoux in Tugby, south Leicestershire, across delightful country lanes. A 50 mile round trip with a support vehicle and a cafe stop, followed by a ‘recovery meal’ laid on by the pub. All in a good cause – we’re asking for donations to Cure Leukaemia, the charity which the Tour de France ‘One Day Ahead’ team were riding for in the summer.
After the ride, while you’re tucking in to a bowl of pasta, Helen will discuss her experiences riding the Tour route, and we’ll raise a few extra pounds with a raffle for some exclusive prizes.
We’re hoping people will make a donation to the Cure Leukaemia charity in return for all this, and we’re suggesting £30 as a minimum donation but you are, of course, free to give whatever you can afford.
